Quick City Hall Wedding Reminder

Posted on November 2, 2025November 2, 2025

When checking in to San Francisco city hall for your civil ceremony, please remember to bring your current Identification and your marriage license. You will not be allowed to have your civil ceremony that day without these documents. We strongly recommend obtaining your marriage license the day before your city hall ceremony rather than doing in on the same day. This will make your wedding day less stressful! Update: City Hall no longer allowing photographers and guests to come back to the County Clerks office to check-in. The witness is the only one that can now accompany the couple. I assume this is related to Covid-19 concerns.

In addition, City Hall now only allows one witness to come back to the office to sign the license. There is some amount of flexibility in this rule so if you want to bring a second witness just ask.
